Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do You Provide Free Consultations?

No, we do not offer consultations outside of the scheduled first session/intake. In our experience, it is difficult to do an effective consultation to assess a match outside of the 55-minute session rather than a quick 10-15 minute call. We believe that this approach allows clients to assess accurately whether their therapist or coach is the best fit for them.

Do You Accept Insurance for Couples Sessions?

No, we do not take insurance for couples therapy at our practice. This decision is due to the low insurance carrier reimbursement rate, which is at the rate for one person, not two. Our therapists often perform three times as much work in the session for a couple as they do for an individual. We provide fast results for couples based on our teams’ years of experience and specialized training in working with complex couples and systemic relational issues.

Do You Accept HSA/FSA Debit Cards?

Yes, we do! And we provide receipts.

Do You Have A Cancellation Policy?

Yes. Our clients agree to notify us of a cancellation within 48 hours of a scheduled appointment by emailing info@lcatllc.com AND their clinician, or else they are required to pay for the session.

Because our staff is paid on a per diem basis and does not receive compensation unless they are in a session, we support them by providing a 48-hour cancellation policy.

  • If 48 hours or more notice is given, there is no fee.
  • If the session is cancelled 24 to 48 hours before the appointment, 50% of the session fee is required. This payment includes the total amount, not just the copay.
  • If the session is cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointment, 100% of the session is required.

What is the Difference Between a Therapist in Training (Intern), an LMFT-A, and a Senior-Level Therapist?

This is a great question, and we have dedicated an entire page to help you understand the differences between them. Please click here.

Is it Possible For Me to File an Insurance Claim While Working with an Intern?

No, sessions with interns are not eligible for insurance claims or super bills. Interns aren’t credentialed with insurers, so you must pay out-of-pocket, which is why their rates are low. Additionally, insurance companies themselves do not offer reimbursement to interns. You may be able to utilize your HSA/FSA card to pay for an intern session if you go through our IVY payment app, because each intern has a licensed therapist supervisor.

I Was Referred to You by Someone I Know, and I am Curious About Your Policies Around Confidentiality

We take discretion and confidentiality seriously. Your case will not be disclosed to other clients just because they referred you here. We have rules and regulations in line with HIPAA to protect your privacy. Without your consent, we would not even acknowledge you if we saw you in public. Our goal is for you to never have to worry about your privacy.

Is Video Session Therapy (For Individuals) Covered by Insurance?

They can be! It depends on your insurance coverage and if you are located in the state of CT during the time of your virtual sessions.

Is Text Therapy Covered by Insurance?

No, insurance does not cover or reimburse for text therapy at this time, as it is a relatively new form of therapy.

What if I Have Had Bad Therapy Experiences in the Past?

We often hear such concerns. Not everyone will be a fit, yet we offer a large and diverse team of therapists and coaches, so you can try who you want. Often times we may not be your first therapist, but we are always your last as our client results have shown.

Do You Offer More Virtual or On-Site Sessions?

Each option is based on therapist availability. We also realize that therapy is best done when clients and clinicians are most comfortable. Instead of arriving at a therapy office after sitting in traffic, you can be more present at home, at work, or while parked in your car in a private space. LCAT was an early adopter of virtual therapy appointments even before COVID and we have helped many clients that could not fit in on-site visits into their schedule.
