Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy provides a safe haven to give survivors support and resources to successfully navigate the challenging terrain of recovery.
Through therapy individuals rebuild their lives on a foundation of emotional well-being and resilience by addressing the underlying causes of trauma and its accompanying symptoms.
We assist victims of rape and sexual assault, adults neglected in childhood, and people who experienced spiritual or cult abuse, emotional abuse, and those who were manipulated.
Life Coaching and Therapy (LCAT) is a VA Community Care Provider for veterans suffering from PTSD.
We also specialize in helping those persecuted due to their identity or have been labeled as the “black sheep” of the family.
The body and psyche can be deeply affected by traumatic events. Trauma can alter your nervous system and brain, resulting in dysregulation and symptoms like anxiety and sadness.
Trauma is a psychological reaction to a catastrophic event, like a rape or a natural disaster.
After a traumatic event, shock and denial are typical reactions. Over time, responses can cause erratic emotions, strained memories, strained relationships, and even physical discomfort such as headaches and nausea.
Trauma therapies work at calming the nervous system, integrating painful experiences, and promoting mental and physical healing.
Trauma-focused therapy is an approach that identifies and focuses on the influence that the traumatic event has on a person’s mental, behavioral, emotional, and physical health.
Trauma therapy is a type of talk therapy used to address emotional and mental health effects. It can help you manage your symptoms to go about your daily activities.
Trauma Therapy Training
Many of our therapy team members are trained in various trauma-informed care modalities. They provide a non-judgmental and empathetic environment to help you get in touch with what is blocking you.
Trauma-informed care modalities include:
- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
- Inner Aspects Method – IAM
Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT) – is primarily used to treat trauma in children and adolescents. The purpose of TF-CBT is to assist kids in identifying erroneous beliefs (such as who is to blame for abuse), correcting unhealthy behavior patterns, and developing new coping mechanisms like self-soothing and emotional expression.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT – is a widely recognized and effective therapeutic approach for trauma. By exploring the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, CBT empowers you to identify and challenge negative beliefs and thought patterns that perpetuate their trauma-related distress.
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) – is a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Its objective is to help those who cannot overcome their memories of the tragedy. Following a stressful experience, PTSD may arise. It manifests as a variety of symptoms, including worry, hypervigilance, negative ideas and beliefs and flashbacks.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy, DBT – is particularly effective for individuals who have experienced trauma and struggle with emotional regulation and interpersonal difficulties. This therapy equips individuals with vital skills to cope with intense emotions, enhance mindfulness, and improve interpersonal relationships.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) – is a therapy method that helps you reconnect with who you really are. You may have created ways to protect parts of you from hurt and pain from your past. It is intended to help you develop a deeper awareness of your inner world, where every facet or part of who you are finds a voice and a place in the story of your life. Self-compassion and understanding are fostered in this method.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – is a specialized therapy that targets traumatic memories and works to reprocess them, freeing the survivor from their lingering emotional impact.
Inner Aspects Method (IAM) – is a therapeutic approach that combines parts theory, polyvagal exercises, and attentive listening to help you articulate your true self in the most profound and authentic way possible. You will explore your innermost thoughts through IAM to uncover secrets that are essential to your development as a person and your authenticity. You start a life-changing path toward integration and self-discovery when you work with this method.
Our staff is available seven days a week to provide you evidence-based, trauma-informed care when and where you need it most. Clients can meet in our office or in the comfort of your own home via a secure, HIPAA compliant video conference.
